Team 6133 "The NUTS!" works with the non-profit organization See3D to recycle used plastic into new rolls of 3d printer filament. Our team collects old used, or broken parts at competitions, local makerspaces, and our school library, and we give them to See3D. We do this to help keep plastics out of landfills and work to make FIRST™ a more sustainable robotics organization. We have collected filament at the Central Ohio Newark Qualifier and the Ohio State Championship so far. If you are interested in donating your own old filament, contact us at summum6133@gmail.com and if you are interested in See3D and their program, check it out at See3d.org.

Our team had a blast getting to demonstrate our robot for the students at Hyde Park school's STEAM night. It was a super fun event where these students got to learn about the types of science and robotics programs ahead of them in high school. They also had the opportunity to drive the robot and try to score some hoops with it. We really appreciate the opportunity to attend this event and inspire these students to pursue robotics and STEAM in the future!

We would like to thank Ms. Merrill, the co-founder of Vecteris Consulting for educating us on strategic methods for organizing a team's goals, priorities, and execution plan.

She helped us implement a structured system focused on outreach, team accountability, budgeting, fundraising, and long-term planning.

Using a clear quarterly and semester rocks model, we were able to define roles, set measurable targets, and build sustainable plans that will guide our team moving forward.

What stood out most was how intentional and disciplined her approach is. She uses this same strategic structure in her own business, and seeing how it translates from the professional world to our student team was incredibly valuable.

We're grateful for the time she invested in us and for the insight she shared. The clarity and direction she gave our team will have a lasting impact on how we operate and grow.

Thank You to our Generous Sponsor, Barnum, for an Incredible Tour!

"I hadn't realized companies like this existed!" On November 24th, members of The NUTS! Had the incredible opportunity to visit H.H. Barnum Company, one of our gracious sponsors. Team member Bryan Zhang states, "The Barnum tour fascinated me with their amazing technology and systems and very detailed replies to questions in which we got a hands-on look at the electronic systems Barnum specializes in, and how these systems can make a factory's workflow safer and more efficient ." Beyond learning about this new side of manufacturing and large-scale industry, we also explored how they essentially serve the role of a carpenter: if a client knows the shape of the chair they want, Barnum chooses the wood, the fasteners, the structure, and the assembly.

Additionally, Zhang stated how "The tour taught me the extreme, growing importance of control engineering as technology begins to expand in complexity and automation control becomes an important factor in almost all systems around the world. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to learn more about control systems and the branch of control engineering, which has brought out my curiosity towards the management of large systems in complex environments." Overall, it was an amazing and eye-opening experience. It was refreshing to see a career path not harmed by AI, and one that more students and future employees should really be aware of. We'd like to thank Barnum for this incredible learning experience.

Outreach with local FLL team

As a part of our continued outreach efforts, one of our team members recently attended a practice

for a local FLL team. This team is from Spencer Center, the same elementary school three of our

members attended. This team member said, "it was an amazing experience and I loved being

able to share some of my knowledge with other FIRST™students!" During the practice, they

helped the team refine their innovation project and discussed comparisons between FLL and

FTC. They and a second member plan to attend another of the FLL team's practices in a few

weeks.

Robotics Without Borders: Expanding FIRST™ to Ethiopia!

Class of '25 team member, Robel Yoseph, has spearheaded the initiative to start the first FLL team in Ethiopia! Robel is of Ethiopian descent and has heard firsthand about the lack of opportunities for students in STEM and wants to help change that. He hopes that "By starting this team in Ethiopia it will inspire the next generation of engineers to take part in hands-on STEM experiences." He began by mass-emailing various schools in Ethiopia in hopes of getting in contact with one of them, which he eventually did. Although the school that contacted him initially agreed to start the team, he received no future responses to any follow-up communication.

He then contacted his dad's friend, who went to high school in Ethiopia, to see if he could contact the headmaster of St. Joseph School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Through the help of the alumni group chat, he eventually made contact with Mr. Leul Belay, the IT Director at St. Joseph. The school agreed to create a team and The Walnut Hills FTC team, The NUTS! helped the St. Joseph team with the selection and registration process, as well as purchasing a Spike Prime™ kit to get their season started. Robel also hopes that "other schools will follow this path and contribute to the growing economic boom in Ethiopia by creating opportunities for these future engineers."
